Best Accessories for GoPro

Before we begin, remember that different GoPro accessories are compatible with different GoPro cameras. While creating this list, I tried to include mostly accessories that work with all available models.

For accessories that are exclusive to the latest GoPro cameras, I made a note next to the product name to warn you. Regardless, always double-check compatibility when purchasing accessories.

Now, let’s begin!

#1 Magnetic Swivel Clip

Key Features:
  • Can fit in the pocket
  • Built-in magnet
  • Works with all GoPro HERO Cameras
  • 360 Degrees Swivel
  • Safe and Secure

PROS
  • Small and compact
  • Rubber teeth that have a great grip
  • Strong and secure grip
CONS
  • No real cons

Magnetic Swivel Clip Review

Magnetic Swivel Clip is the simplest mount you can find, yet it gives you significant possibilities. This accessory enables you to attach your GoPro to almost anything you want.

You can clip it to your backpack strap and record your hikes, or you can clip it on a table and take a group photo. It’s cheap and simple, yet it provides you with so many new ways to take your photos and videos. Magnetic Swivel Clip also has a magnet that allows you to stick the camera to metal surfaces. You can use it to mount a GoPro mod or a third party microphone or light on it.

Magnetic Swivel Clip covers all possible angles, gives great stability, and it’s compact and cheap. You can clip it to anything you want to, and you can carry it in your pocket. There isn’t a specific hobby that I can think of and recommend it for. It’s an accessory that anyone with a GoPro would find useful.

#2 Chesty

Key Features:
  • Adjustable to fit various body types
  • Allows you to take hands-free shots
  • Comfortable
  • Quick Release Buckle
  • Mountable anywhere you want, has voice controls and built-in camera control

PROS
  • Highest quality chest mount on the market
  • Comfortable
  • Lightweight
CONS
  • It takes time to learn how to take the best POV recordings

Chesty

The Chesty is a mount designed to be worn on your chest, as the name suggests. It provides a hands-free recording experience, allowing you to capture immersive first-person footage. Made of lightweight materials, the Chesty is comfortable to wear and suitable for various body types. It’s an excellent accessory for activities like biking, skiing, hiking, and more.

People appreciate the quality of the material that it’s made of. But to make the best use of it, you will need a lot of practice. It’s comfortable and tight, and if you intend to record your point of view, this is a great mount.

Overall, it’s one of the best GoPro accessories for just about anyone.

#3 Headstrap + QuickClip

Key Features:
  • Compatible with all GoPro Cameras
  • Adjustable for a variety of head/helmet sizes
  • Compact
  • Great for first person shots
  • Ideal for extreme sport adventures

PROS
  • Best Head Strap mount for GoPro cameras
  • Great first person shots
  • Comfortable and secure if you wear it under a hat
CONS
  • No instructions
  • Quick Clip is not very safe
  • Not quite comfortable on its own

Head Strap + QuickClip

The Head strap is cheap yet one of the most useful mounts. The Head strap is a comfortable mount that you can wear on your head just like you would wear a headlamp.

The strap is comfortable if you wear a hat below it, and you probably won’t even notice it on your head. It’s fully adjustable to fit all sizes of heads and helmets. It can help you record first-person footage of your biking, running, walking, etc. It’s not the best choice if you are interested in recording something with too much movement or shaking.

QuickClip is a clip that will enable you to strap your GoPro to your baseball cap, backpack strap, belt, etc. It’s not as good as the Magnetic Swivel Clip, for example, but it’s useful to have. QuickClip isn’t very popular since it doesn’t secure the camera as tight as it should, and people don’t want to risk breaking their precious cameras.

#4 GoPro Hand + Wrist Strap

Key Features:
  • Can be used under the water
  • Adjustable for all Adult hand sizes
  • 360° Rotation
  • Removable batteries : Yes
  • Quality Material
  • You will always find use for it

PROS
  • It is made by quality material
  • Safe and secure
  • Versatile
CONS
  • Not safe on it’s own in the water, make sure to have a floaty for protection

Hand + Wrist Strap Review

This is one of the most versatile mounts you can have. It gives you the possibility of putting your GoPro on your hands, legs, arms, etc. Almost anywhere you want it. The top part of it swivels in 360-degree motion, and it’s very secure and comfortable.

It’s something that it’s nice to have, and the number of different angles it can cover makes it a great choice for a wide variety of hobbyists.

The great thing about this mount is that you are hands-free, and you can do anything you want with your hands and record it with your camera. A hand strap is a great mount, and we recommend it. It comes with 2 more straps, a Wrist strap and a leg strap.

Even if you don’t need to record something with a camera strapped to your leg or a wrist, those 2 straps can easily be used in securing and mounting your camera on other objects.

#5 Suction Cup

Key Features:
  • Proven to be safe at the speeds of 150 mph
  • Compact & easy to travel with
  • Attachable to cars, boats, etc. Basically any metal or glass surface
  • Compatible with all GoPro HERO models

PROS
  • Waterproof
  • Quick release
  • Reliable
CONS
  • No instructions
  • Not meant to get hit

Suction Cup

Suction Cup gives you the possibility of attaching your GoPro to smooth and clean surfaces. It’s great for attaching it to a car, helmet, boat, etc.

It has been tested and proven at the speed of 150mph, which makes it extremely secure and reliable. A note from the official GoPro site is that it’s not recommended to use it in high impact sports such as skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing. Like many other GoPro mounts, it provides you with a great range of motion while having great stability.

We recommend this the most to people who plan to drive their car or a bike around beautiful landscapes, it’s an overall great way to record your trips, and you don’t plan on exposing your camera and mount to hits and dangerous debris.

#6 Gooseneck

Key Features:
  • Adjustable
  • Can be used as an Handheld Grip
  • 20.3 CM long
  • Multiple Goosenecks can be joined together
  • Can be attached to any GoPro Mount with a quick-release base

PROS
  • Unique mount
  • Great for hard to reach corners
CONS
  • Not stable after connecting multiple Goosenecks
  • It can be bulky

Gooseneck

GoPro Gooseneck is one of the most versatile mounts. To use it properly, you will have to attach it to another GoPro mount that features a quick-release base.

This is an essential piece of equipment that will always come in handy, enabling you to record around the hard to reach corners.

The Gooseneck is 20 cm long, and it also allows you to connect multiple Goosenecks to make one longer. It’s sturdy and made of high-quality materials, but people often complained that it broke easily, so be careful when using it. Another thing to have in mind is that when you use multiple goosenecks, they get heavier, and the mounts stay in the place only for a limited amount of time.

Amateurs won’t need to have this in their arsenal unless they have a specific situation in which they would use it.

#7 GoPro Hero8 Media Mod

Key Features:
  • Built in Microphone
  • 2 Cold shoe mounts
  • 3.5 mm audio port for external microphone
  • HDMI port
  • You can mount it anywhere you want
  • HERO8 Exclusive

PROS
  • Unique mount that expands your possibilities
  • Perfect for people that want better audio quality
  • Allows you to add an additional flash or light
CONS
  • Not waterproof
  • Fragile
  • Expensive

GoPro Hero8 Media Mod

The HERO8 Media Mod is an interesting addition to your HERO8. Media mod gives you a built-in shotgun mic but also a 3.5mm port for additional external microphones.

Sound recording isn’t the only thing this Mod improves for your camera. Media Mod also comes with an HDMI port that allows you to connect with your TV, Computer, or Laptop. It has 2 cold-shoe mounts that allow you to attach other HERO8 mods or other third-party microphones and lights.

This is a great addition for your HERO8, especially for people in need of an extra microphone, and people rarely complain about its quality. The only real downside of Media Mod is that it’s expensive and not waterproof.

The cold-shoe mounting point means your mount isn’t connected and powered by the GoPro camera. This is used for mounts that you will manipulate manually or wirelessly or for mounts that don’t need power at all.

#8 GoPro Hero8 Display Mod

Key Features:
  • 2 inch flip up screen
  • Built in rechargeable battery and a mini HDMI port for easier connectivity
  • Connect via Media mod
  • Perfect addition for vloggers

PROS
  • Allows you to see yourself while recording
  • Great quality
CONS
  • Requires Media mod
  • Fragile
  • Not waterproof

GoPro Hero8 Display Mod

Display mod is another Hero8 exclusive addition. Display mod is a flip-up screen that allows you to see yourself while you are recording; it comes with a micro-HDMI connector and a rechargeable built-in battery. This is useful for vloggers or streamers as it gives them the possibility to know how the footage looks, is the angle good, what is happening behind them at the moment, etc.

Hero8 Display Mod also requires Media Mod. This makes it expensive, and it is something you can still make great footage without. But in case you have some specific need that this Mod fulfills, you can go for it.

If you need this mod and you plan on buying it, the only downsides are that it’s not waterproof, it’s dangerous even to expose it to rain. With each mod, the camera will also require to be more gentle with it.

#9 GoPro Hero8 Light Mod

Key Features:
  • Mounts on the Media mod or on any GoPro Mount
  • Compact Design
  • 4 levels of brigntness – up to 200 lumens
  • Connect via Media mod

PROS
  • Light and compact
  • Great addition for people that want crisp detail in their footage
  • Waterproof up to 10m
CONS
  • Not waterproof if using with Media mod
  • Withe every mod, the camera gets more fragile and more heavy

GoPro Hero8 Light Mod

No matter what kind of footage you plan on recording, Light mod is something everyone will find useful. We all saw those big and bulky flashes for DSLR cameras that make the photos look beautiful; this is the GoPro equivalent.

The light mod is a high quality LED lighting that will make your shadowy scenes clear and bright. It comes with 4 brightness levels, a strobe mode, and an overdrive mode. It’s waterproof, and it has up to 6-hour runtime depending on the level of brightness you want.

The nice thing about this mod is that it’s not Hero8 exclusive. Even though it’s meant for media mod, you can easily mount it on other compatible GoPro mounts, or you can hold it in your hand. To use it with Hero8, you will need a media mod, but be careful. Even though the light mod is waterproof, the media mod isn’t.

#10 Floaty

Key Features:
  • Makes your GoPro Float
  • Easy to spot color
  • Great for recording around the water
  • Not the same Floaty like the ones before, this one is only for Hero8

PROS
  • Great and unique accessory
  • Makes your GoPro safe around the water
  • Reliable
CONS
  • It doesn’t float with all mounts

Floaty

Floaty is a simple yet awesome accessory that makes your GoPro afloat! It protects your camera from sinking and allows you greater possibilities when recording underwater or around the water.

Floaty is a great choice for anyone that spends a lot of time recording around, and in the water, it does its job, and you don’t have to worry about losing your expensive camera. Another great feature is that the floaty will also make your selfie sticks, mounts or gimbals float but have in mind that they should also be waterproof. It also works with GoPro protective housing.

#11 MAX Grip + Tripod

Key Features:
  • Can be used as a grip, extension pole or tripod
  • Extendable from 23 cm to 56 cm
  • Safe and secure lock
  • Perfect for travel, vlogs, and taking pictures from hard-to-reach places
  • 360 Degrees capture

PROS
  • Great option and compatible with all GoPro Cameras
  • One of the best choices
  • Stable and reliable
CONS
  • A bit expensive
  • No instructions

MAX Grip + Tripod

This is probably the best MAX pole you can find on the market. It is designed for recording 360 footage. It can be used as a Tripod or as an extension pole (From 23 to 56 cm). It’s stable and does its job.

It’s made of quality materials so it’s safe and sturdy. People complained most often about legs not being as stable as people thought they were and that the extension pole itself isn’t long enough. Even though people had some complaints about this pole, they are only a minority as many content creators are delighted with this product.

The length of the pole will be enough for some people and not enough for others. Overall we recommend this to everyone that has a MAX. Depending on your needs, you can always choose other MAX poles, Shorty or El Grande instead of the Grip.

#12 GoPro Supercharger

Key Features:
  • Compact
  • Includes multiple wall adapters
  • Can power your camera while recording
  • Splash-proof Grade: Only splash-proof
  • Charges up to two devices

PROS
  • Fastest + most reliable GoPro charger
  • Can also charge other devices
  • Cheap
CONS
  • No real cons, to be honest

GoPro Supercharger

GoPro Supercharger allows you to recharge 2 GoPro devices simultaneously (This includes both batteries or cameras).

It has 2 USB-C ports that enable you to recharge your devices from 20 to 70%, depending on what camera you are recharging.

This is a great addition to anyone’s GoPro arsenal. A GoPro Supercharger will save you a lot of time. It also gives you the possibility to recharge your devices anywhere globally since it comes with multiple wall adapters.

Hobbyists will probably get by with recharging their batteries and cameras overnight with a normal charger and still have enough battery to record everything they plan. The supercharger is a useful thing to have, but you probably don’t need it unless you travel around the world and need quick recharging wherever you are.

#13 HERO8 Rechargeable Battery

Key Features:
  • A Rechargeable battery for GoPro Cameras
  • The most reliable type of battery for all models of GoPro cameras
  • It’s runtime depends on what camera you have and in what quality you record

PROS
  • Always nice to have a replacement for your batteries
  • Best choice for GoPro batteries
CONS
  • No actual cons

GoPro Rechargeable battery

Having spare batteries is the best investment you can make, no matter if you are an amateur or a professional. GoPro cameras often have a great runtime to quality ratio. But this doesn’t make you safe from getting out of juice if you record in lower quality. You can record footage from 720p to 4K60, depending on what camera you have.

Recording higher quality videos will use more battery, but sometimes, even having a battery that lasts 5 minutes longer can make the difference.

When buying your battery, buy an official GoPro rechargeable battery since its quality is unmatched. Make sure that the battery is compatible with your camera since there are different versions for different cameras.

#14 Dual Battery Charger

Key Features:
  • Charges 2 GoPro batteries at the same time
  • Can be used with GoPro supercharger
  • Comes with an additional battery
  • Actually quite comfortable to carry around in your backpack

PROS
  • Reliable way to recharge your batteries
  • Unique device that is really helpful to have
CONS
  • Not really needed for a lot of users

Dual Battery Charger

Dual Battery Charger allows you to recharge 2 Rechargeable batteries simultaneously and quickly. To recharge the batteries with a Dual Battery charger, you will need a USB-C cable to connect with a charger. This gives you the possibility to use your Dual Battery charger wherever you can plug a charger. You can also use your GoPro Supercharger for extra fast recharging.

Using the Dual Battery Charger is easy. You put in the batteries until they lock in place, and you will notice a yellow light. This means the battery is charging, and it will charge until the color turns to green, which means that the battery is full and ready to use.

When buying your battery, buy an official GoPro rechargeable battery since its quality is unmatched. Make sure that the battery is compatible with your camera since there are different versions for different cameras. The Dual Battery charger is a great accessory if you have multiple batteries that always need to be full and ready for use. However, it’s not a cheap accessory, and an average user probably won’t need it that much.

#15 HERO8 Lens & Screen Protector

Key Features:
  • Protects your lens and screen from hits and falls
  • Don’t even think about filming mountain/rock climbing without this one
  • Made of tempered glass

PROS
  • Great addition for extra safety
  • Anti smudge and fingerprint glass
  • Reliable
CONS
  • It lowers the video quality by a little

Lens + Screen protector

This is a Hero8 exclusive screen protector. Hero8 doesn’t have a removable lens, which can bother people who record in extreme conditions since they expose their lense and touchscreen to the risk of breaking.

So, it’s a smart thing to have additional protection for your touchscreen and lens. This is a useful accessory to have if you have extra money, but you don’t plan on spending it on expensive protective housing. The tempered glass can affect the picture’s quality by a little, so have this in mind.

We recommend this to anyone who exposes the camera to dirt, mud, sand, etc. and doesn’t need to invest in expensive protective housing. Keep in mind that this lens and screen protectors are useful, but they won’t protect your camera from powerful hits.

#16 PolarPro Shutter collection

Key Features:
  • Great Addition for professional filmmakers
  • Includes 3 filters
  • Includes protection case
  • Control shutter speed for great photos

PROS
  • Great choice for professionals
  • Makes your photos and videos look better
CONS
  • Expensive
  • Fall off easily after some time of use

PolarPro Shutter collection

PolarPro shutter collection gives you the possibility of controlling your shutter speed with 3 filters. You can easily carry them in your pocket and install them whenever you want.

This package includes ND8, ND16, and ND32 filters. This is not something an amateur will need, and it also isn’t cheap. PolarPro made diving filters for GoPro but have in mind that the Shutter collection isn’t usable underwater.

#17 PolarPro DiveMaster Filter Kit

Key Features:
  • For beautiful underwater pictures
  • Safe and secure mounting
  • Includes a protective case
  • Splash-proof Grade: Only splash-proof
  • Hero8 Protective case exclusive

PROS
  • One of the best choices for underwater footage
  • Safe and secure
CONS
  • Not expensive on it’s own but it requires the Hero8 Protective case

PolarPro DiveMaster Filter Kit

For anyone that spends a lot of time recording underwater, we can’t recommend this enough. These filters give you great clarity when recording underwater and make the colors more interesting and intense. Filters require the GoPro Hero8 protective housing to work with. This package includes a custom case for the filters and 3 filters :

  • Red Filter – For deep blue ocean water
  • Magenta Filter – For greenish water like rivers and lakes
  • Snorkeling Filter (Lighter red) – For Shallow ocean water

For anyone whose hobby is enjoying and sharing flora and fauna underwater, these filters will amaze both them and their admirers.

#18 GoPro HERO8 Protective Housing

Key Features:
  • Protects your Hero8 from hits, mud and debris
  • Expands your underwater capabilities up to 60 meters
  • Comes with a skeletal door that allow you to record with better audio quality

PROS
  • Safe and sturdy
  • Best choice for people that record underwater
  • Allows you to attach additional lenses
CONS
  • Not waterproof with skeletal door

GoPro HERO8 Protective housing

Hero8 is great in terms of its durability and sturdiness, but that’s not enough if you are planning on exposing your camera to constant hits, going high speed with it, etc. it’s also helpful if you are going to expose it to sand, mud, debris, etc.

For people that have in mind doing risky stuff with their camera, Hero8 protective housing is the best thing you can invest in. It’s always better to spend extra cash on safety than to buy a new camera.

Protective Housing protects your camera from any kind of physical damage, but it also gives you the possibility of recording up to 60 meters underwater! The only downside is that with the protective housing, the camera is found behind multiple glasses. This will lower the video quality for a bit.

A great addition is that with the protective housing, you can now use the PolarPro DiveMaster kit that enables you to record better footage underwater.

#19 GoPro Super Suit

Key Features:
  • Protects your Hero camera from mud and debris
  • Underwater capabilities up to 60 meters
  • Comes with a skeletal door that allows you to record with better audio quality
  • Compatibility: GoPro Hero7/GoPro Hero 6/GoPro Hero5

PROS
  • Best choice for people that record underwater
  • Makes your camera safe
  • Doesn’t lower the video quality
CONS
  • Not many cons except for rare cases where people had an accidental leakage

GoPro Super Suit

GoPro Super Suit is like Hero8 protective housing, but only for older Hero cameras. It also gives you the ability to dive up to 60 meters with your camera and protects your camera.

Most of the GoPro cameras are sturdy and waterproof up to 10m. Still, for people who are planning to use their camera in a dangerous environment that exposes the camera to debris, hits, and mud, the GoPro Super Suit is a great addition to their arsenal.

The super-suit gives your camera the possibility of diving up to 60 meters. This is a great deal for anyone interested in recording underwater life in rivers, lakes, and oceans. GoPro Super Suit comes with a “Skeleton door” that allows you to use the camera’s touch screen, but in this case, the protective housing is waterproof only as much as the camera is waterproof.

#20 SanDisk Extreme 64GB microSDXC

Key Features:
  • 64GB fast microSD card for all your footage
  • Fast travel speed
  • Must have for all GoPro users
  • Must have for all GoPro users

PROS
  • Best choice for all GoPro users
  • Small and reliable
CONS
  • No real downsides

SanDisk Extreme 64GB microSDXC

If you ever used a computer, phone, or a camera, you already know that one of the most important specifications is fast and reliable storage. SanDisk Extreme 64GB microSDXC has a write speed of up to 40 Mb/s for burst photo capture and up to 90mb/s for recording.

It allows you to record 4K and Full HD video with no problem. Higher video quality means that the footage itself needs more space and with newer 4K60 GoPro cameras, having additional storage is a must.

There are third party SD cards that will work just fine, but they will be of lower price and quality, and we suggest never risking losing the precious footage you spent hours on. SanDisk Extreme 64GB microSDXC can withstand extreme weather and temperatures.

GoPro Accesories Buying Guide & FAQ

I don’t have much money, what are the basics I should get first?

Mounts, cases, and GoPro gimbals are something that you need to buy depending on what you plan to record and how professional you want your footage to be.

For every starter, the best thing they should invest in is a GoPro microSD card and a rechargeable battery.

What we recommend is that if you are planning on buying a microSD is that you should look for a UHS class 3 card since they are capable of recording 4K and 8K Ultra HD video.

If you have an older camera, you should check if the size of your microSD is compatible with the camera.

There are a lot of third-party batteries that are often cheaper, but nothing can replace the original GoPro rechargeable battery. The quality of third-party batteries can often vary and some can even damage your GoPro, if that happens, GoPro customer support probably won’t be of much help. People that use third party batteries often come back to using official GoPro batteries.

I bought an older model, where do I find the accessories for it?

You don’t have to worry if your GoPro mounts and accessories are going to be compatible with your newer models, some exceptions are depending on the size of your model, but they all work on the same principles.

If you have a hand strap, for example, it will be compatible with both Hero8 and Hero3. All GoPro accessories are universal and anything that uses the GoPro mounting clip system will be compatible.

However, have in mind that GoPro models often vary in size, GoPro housings are compatible only with models that are mentioned on their store page. GoPro batteries are also not compatible with every model, newer GoPro models record in higher quality and frame rate, thus using more battery, this often leads to batteries being bigger or different in other ways.

I have an unlimited budget, what should I buy?

What accessories you need to have varies from camera to camera but also from hobby to hobby. But the things we recommend for everyone, besides a microSD and spare batteries are a magnetic swivel clip, hand strap as it comes with a lot of useful stuff that can be useful in any situation, tripod mount, or even better an extension pole + tripod.

Next, there are accessories that don’t improve the footage quality but improve GoPro in other ways.

Lenses & Protection

Such accessories are the protective lens, for Hero8 and models with a non-removable protective lens, a screen, and lens protector. The lens protector is just a piece of tempered glass that will add an extra layer of protection. For models that have removable camera lenses, it’s nice to have a spare lens lying around in case you break it.

For more hardcore people, we can’t recommend the GoPro protective case enough. This is a game-changer; the accessory that makes your camera almost indestructible as it provides it with a thick layer of plastic that will protect your camera from all hits and debris.

This accessory comes with a skeleton door, which allows you to use the touchscreen on your camera, however, this provides little to no protection.

This is also our recommendation for all people that plan on using their GoPro underwater. Even though GoPro cameras are officially waterproof up to 10 meters, you can never be too safe. There are no actual downsides of this accessory, besides the fact that it’s pricey, but for people that need this, it will pay off. For others that need their GoPro around water but don’t plan on diving, Floaty is also a great choice.

Other great additions are a GoPro Supercharger and a Dual Battery Charger, one of these two will always come in handy. The great thing about a GoPro supercharger is that it comes with multiple wall adapters that will enable you to record anywhere in the world, this is a great thing especially for all you travelers.

I have an unlimited budget, what should I buy? (Hero8 Edition)

Hero8 is one of the best GoPro cameras on the market, besides the camera having the best photo and video quality out of all GoPro cameras, Hero8 also comes with a lot of interesting features and a wide variety of accessories that can be used with the camera to improve the overall experience.

One of such accessories and novelties are Hero8 mods that expand the qualities of your camera. Hero8 mods are pricey since you will have to at least buy a media mod, this by itself isn’t cheap.

The media mod improves the audio quality of your videos and enables you to attach other third party additions since it has 2 cold shoe mounts. The downside of this mod is that it’s not waterproof and that it makes your camera bigger, this makes it unable to fit in Hero8 cases.

However, GoPro probably won’t stop here with releasing new mods and it’s nice to have this mod as it will allow you to upgrade your GoPro further, Hero8 also doesn’t have a built-in HDMI port which the media mount provides. Cold shoe mounts allow great improvements in terms of additional flashes or extras.

For all those with extreme hobbies, Hero8 Protective Housing will do the job just fine. The safety of your GoPro is the best thing you can invest in. With the protective housing, you will also be able to use PolarPro filters that enhance the quality of your underwater footage.
